One in a series of twelve films in which the great French mime Marcel Marceau performs some works from his repertoire. In his introduction Marceau states that to him this pantomime has different meanings. He explains that the maskmaker represents humanity and has all the faces humanity can possess. He also suggests that while many people hide behind masks, others use them to create symbols of life and says that the last mask will reveal man in his only and real moment of truth. As the performer puts on mask after mask, he finds to his horror that one of them is stuck. For more on filmmaker John Barnes, visit http://www.afana.org/barnesbio.htm

Masterful
This wonderful series perfectly encapsulates the artistry of both the subject of pantomime and one of its most inventive and accomplished practitioners.

Though, arguably, Marceau's physical ability was on the wane, his purity of expression was at its pinnacle. This is one of his darkest, psychologically densest works. A huge thanks to AFANA for this series!
